Among all the saints whose lives are recorded in Holy Writ, King David possesses an experience of the most striking, varied, and instructive character.

August 20th – David’s Psalms give us so many models and insights to worship of God… and also show the challenges David faced… and God’s merciful grace… which we too can ‘interpolate into our lives, circumstances and challenges’…

A ‘Triple Portion’ of God’s Mercy and Love

Today… something I’ve never done… but three of Charles Spurgeon’s devotionals have struck this chord in me… so…I’d love to share with you these thoughts…and see how they impact or stimulate yours…by tying them all together in one…thus… “A Special Triple Portion of God’s Mercy and Love”…

First in this… it all ‘begins and continues in Christ’… (because it ‘never ends in Him’)… He is God! and eternal…without beginning and without end… and I believe that God the Father loves us to lift His Son up to Him in prayer and worship as a ‘sweet incense’…what more could a father desire than for his son to be loved so by all…

Rev 1:7-8
7 Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. Even so. Amen.
8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Rev 21:5-6
5 And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.”
6 And He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.
Rev 22:12-13
12 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.
13 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”

So too…let us then ‘focus on Him first’… and always…
“Thou, Lord, hast made me glad through Thy work.” Psalm 92:4

False Teachers: “They weave the spider’s web.” Isaiah 59:5

Please enjoy Spurgeon’s devotional on this… but be warned… in me…and my comments following it… this also triggered very ‘deep-felt editorializing’… so… when you read it… and see my emotions… please just sift it and allow what you will to stimulate your own search for God’s truth…I am a sinner … saved by grace… and totally without merit for His love or salvation! Thus… I am NOT anyone’s authority on Christ…merely try to be ‘His vessel in this’… but may at times… be so human in feelings…

“They weave the spider’s web.” Isaiah 59:5

Today’s above Scripture reference (from the KJV) expanded for context and taken from the New American Standard Translation for contrast:

Isa 59:4-6 ……They trust in confusion, and speak lies; They conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.
5 They hatch adders’ eggs and weave the spider’s web; He who eats of their eggs dies, And from that which is crushed a snake breaks forth.
6 Their webs will not become clothing, Nor will they cover themselves with their works; Their works are works of iniquity, ….

We have an enemy… a supernatural enemy…

August 7th Devotional: We have an enemy… a supernatural enemy…

“Satan hindered us.” 1 Thessalonians 2:18

Today’s above Scripture reference (from the KJV) expanded for context and taken from the New American Standard Translation for contrast:

1 Thess 2:11-12
1 just as you know how we were exhorting and encouraging and imploring each one of you as a father would his own children,
12 so that you may walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
1 Thess 2:14-18
4 For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea, for you also endured the same sufferings at the hands of your own countrymen, even as they did from the Jews,
15 who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out. They are not pleasing to God, but hostile to all men,
16 hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles that they might be saved; with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins. But wrath has come upon them to the utmost.
17 But we, brethren, having been bereft of you for a short while —  in person, not in spirit —  were all the more eager with great desire to see your face.
18 For we wanted to come to you —  I, Paul, more than once —  and yet Satan thwarted us.

And now… written by a man of God –
Charles Spurgeon — who wrote this over 115 years ago in England …but his illumination of the Scriptures are still so relevant even today…as God’s word never changes…and this only shows again that His Holy Spirit…who has illuminated His word to saints preceding us…is also faithful to do so for us…if we will but search His word diligently…
