Test Yourself to Know You are a Christian
These are only my thoughts, and thus subject to my fallible human understanding. Hopefully it will stimulate you to consider yourself, and your position in Christ—and Him in you.
There are several very distinct and disturbing warnings in the scriptures:
1. Hebrews 10:31 “It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
2. Matthew 10:28 “And do not fear those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; but fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
3. Matthew 7: 21-23 Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven. Many of you will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; Depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’
4. Philippians 2:12 So then my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
So, dire warnings, not only to the lost, to avowed non-believers, but to people who “proclaim to be Christians”. Is there then “casual Christianity”? Is just going to Sunday school or church occasionally enough? Is just a “warm feeling” gained by attending church socially enough? Is being a pastor, teacher, or usher, or singing in the choir, or a church worker enough? And, what if you don’t even do any of those, nor even spend time in the word? The above verses sound a lot more serious than that don’t they? If a holy God did not spare His own Son in regard to the issue of sin, when He, who knew no sin, became sin for us on the cross; and faced God in judgement for sin in our place—then we must all consider this to a much deeper perspective—or we are fooling ourselves. And, God is not mocked! Hell is real!
