Names of God
These are taken from my notes of Marv Rosenthal, plus other sources on “The Names of God”: ( last revised July 14,1996)
My preface note: To me, “logos”, the revealed word of God, is of Him revealing Himself, and dealing with His creation (not as some seem to think, about how man deals with or seeks God, which we do not do without the mystery of His selection or provision). We are so fortunate in that we have the completed revelations to study and use as our authoritative guide, “All scripture is inspired by God, and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness–”. As God revealed Himself, His very name revealed His substance and essence, and was so significant to that very situation, provisionally. I’m not saying we have “homogenized” His person, and in any way diluted His substance and essence (we cannot add to or take away from Him, for He is God!), but in translation, it seems we have maybe “not kept” some real personal insight into Him—that He wanted revealed—that was important—as we’ll see an example in Genesis with Satan’s temptation of Eve. I hope when you approach His throne of grace and mercy in prayer, to worship Him, that these more intimate revelations of His name will allow you a more intimate personal relationship with Him, and are edifying to you.
